The 2024 India-CARICOM Summit is a landmark event aimed at deepening cooperation between India and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nations. Hosted in Guyana, it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the region in over 50 years. The summit focuses on key areas such as sustainable energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, food security, healthcare access, and technological innovation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other leaders like CARICOM Chair Dickon Mitchell and Guyana's President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, highlighted shared goals in building resilient and sustainable societies. Discussions included partnerships to improve energy security, bolster healthcare systems, enhance agricultural productivity, and support education and workforce development in the Caribbean. The summit also aims to strengthen cultural ties and support climate resilience efforts in the region​​​​.
The first India-CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Summit was held on September 25, 2019, in New York City on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it included participation from 14 CARICOM member states.
