Yes, the fixed roof looked very good, gave some security, and provided more storage. What you've missed, somehow, is that the roof gave protection from poor weather!
That's the biggest compromise with convertibles: rain and cold in U.K. and parts of Europe; against sun in most of Straya, Suth Ifrica; both extremes in much of Murrrca.
