The "Ireland is full" and "Get them out" mobs are not actually very numerous, but they're very noisy. The majority of Irish are decent sympathetic people who understand the plight of others from war torn regions etc.

Ireland is a democracy. It's position on Palestine enjoys the support of a majority of Irish people.

" Ireland is full " is a fringe group, who don't have majority support, but they can express their view and seek support for it.

I can't see the contradiction.

Predominantly, those groups are different people, though there may be an intersection group who back Palestinians and think if they had their own homeland they wouldn't be coming to Europe in large numbers. Ireland is full is part of the growing anti immigrant and right wing political movement growing across Europe and America unfortunately. We are not immune to global trends.

We support them to have their home without oppression , not to flee like we had to. It's simple really

No contradiction. It is consistent in that it is against outsiders taking over another country.

What's causing your confusion is how big you think the far right group in Ireland is. The movement is small but very vocal. One of if not the smallest far right groups in the world. So it is quite possible for the country as a whole to be pro Palestine and a small racist group to exist.

The Irish should support/care about Palestine the same amount Palestinians support and care about Ireland........ Which is zero!

Palestine like Ireland was colonised by the British that’s why Ireland is pro Free Palestine which is a pretty good reason if you ask me. Now, this and the whole Ireland is full debate are two completely non related things (Irish people are not asking to host Palestinian people).

Ireland has suffered under the rule of another neighboring nation for centuries. They have a surprising amount in common with Palestine.

I think in peoples’ minds it’s possible to support Palestine, ie, no colonialism, 2 state solution, end killing of civilians etc., but not want them in your country because you have so many problems of your own. I think the two desires can be held simultaneously without any inherent conflict. Just like I want other countries to have democracy and good economies etc. but it doesn’t mean I want their citizens in my country. They seem to be 2 separate issues. I think that’s what’s going on.

Maybe it has more to do with keeping the arabs in their own land than any non-humanitarian ideals. Like, if arabs had a safe place in their own land, they wouldn't have a reason to get out, and thus they wouldn't be going to Ireland in order to escape. It makes sense in theory, and those people sound like they're more likely to throw money at a pesky social problem than put any hands-on effort into solving it.

Arab colonialism happened 1.400 years ago , and British colonialism started in Ireland 800 years ago. People are welcome here in Ireland. But we must have some control. Ireland without its people. Is not Ireland

Yes, the country's attitude in WW2 was shameful and symbolic of their stance now. Outrageous.

We want Palestine to be free and the people be safe on their own land, not to come here and take our land. We wish for peace and love. Our island is only 302 miles long and 171 miles wide, how can we possibly take in millions of refugees, our own people are in a housing crisis and struggling to survive.
