It's amazing what passes for knowledge in this country. All of you have it wrong. That is not the historical Buddha that we all know and love. What you're looking at is actually the Medicine Buddha (Menla in Tibetan) and you can tell it is him by the mudra of his right hand. The different attributes that they're describing as being 9 ft tall and other descriptions are all descriptions of what an enlightened being would posess if they had achieved perfect enlightenment. Those beings would have these physical characteristics, such as long ear lobes, golden skin etc.

My dad was Buddhist. He was a teacher for 50+ years. I have all of his literature. They believe in the universe and karmic law.
