I believe that there is a big difference between religion and spirituality, which a lot of people seem to use interchangeably. Being in the mountains gives you a scope and perspective that is larger than yourself and I feel, for me, that is spiritual.

Nowhere else do i feel so in awe of creation, as i do when on a mountain. The colossal nature of mountains, their inexplicable beauty - and the gift of my life, one which I'm being granted the opportunity to climb these living, ancient, works of art - it makes me feel a spiritual gratitude that has nothing to do with religion.

Hiking, backpacking is my therapy. It's the air up there, the clean mountain air, forest air... Closer to God

110% mountains prove there is so much more than just youā€¦ they humble you, and show you that your not the center of the universe.

For me it's the opportunity to be in my Lord's creation. His creation is all inspiring. Love being with Him in the mountains of nature. Anyone can be spiritual and say that they are religious. The difference between is do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If not you're still lost. I pray that you have an amazing Christmas which is a celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For me, spiritually is probably a feeling of connection to the world/universe. Its very zen to maintain a step pattern. I view it as a meditative type of experience. But like you, I'm not religious, but I get the sentiment he tried to convey. It's what makes them feel one with everything and makes you feel like your part of it all to a degree

Yes, spirituality and hiking are tied together to me. There is no distracting things around you, just you and the nature. There is thr chance to observe your thoughts and meditate on them.

Dear mountain lovers.
Where did Moses receive the ten commandments?
Through the ages humans always sougth inner peace and guidance by seeking solitude in places that stands out in nature. And what better place than a mountain can you find? Monasterys, hermits and pilgrims have chosen places like this for a reason. Above the turmoil of civilization.
In Europe many pre-hippie-movements esablished their communitys on ,or nereby mountains. German philosophers advocated the Wandervogel way. That is: leave the corrupted society behind and seek stillness on top of the mountains. If the way up there was hard and dangerous it only meant that the experience will be more rewarding. You dont have to belive, just do!
The weigth and the positional energy of mountains is enough.
Try it ;-)

Being in the mountians or any outdoor place is a very spiritual experience. That is why we humans are drawn there. Because of the spiritual connection. We use words like peaceful or awe inspiring which is really describing a spiritual experience. Religion has nothing to do with it though. No mater which Religion a person adheres to or even none at all. We all get some sort of spiritual experience in nature.

i'm a secular humanist, but that doesn't mean I don't have a sense of awe and wonder when i'm in the mountains. That connection to nature can be interpreted any way you like - doesn't mean its more profound for those that identify as spiritual.

I think it depends on your world view. Subjectively for me, as an Atheist and someone who doesnā€™t belief in supernatural phenomena, i would describe it as place of having some philosophical resonance instead. I am alone and responsible for my self, in an environment that is tough and challenging but one i love. I am not only alone with my thoughts but challenged out of my comfort zone and forced to test them and reflect. I am forced to exist

I have a doctorate in theology and love hiking.

This is silly. Mountains have always been where God meets humans.
