A lot of these trends are just "I put my partner in a unexpexted stressful situation to gauge their (hopefully funny or wholesome) response"
It's stupid and just tells me that these relatioinships are often in dire straits.

Trends and memes are actually as old as humanity and language in itself and the point of them is to rinse and repeat the same basic building blocks, but making something slightly new/personal all the time.
We communicate both our shared values and cultural absurdities this way. We create in- and out groups this way. We show how we fit in and how we don't, and all that often in a humorous way.
Every time someone says 'we listen and we don't judge', they add something 100% their own after.
And every time someone says 'honey I cant pay rent this month', the response is 100% their partners choice.
By recognizing these patterns we get glimpses into their lives and relationships, how they view the world and we can position ourselves in these structures. (sometimes we find comfort, sometimes we're horrified)

I hate all of these trends. They are not funny. My dad used to not pay the bills, and see extra money in the account, so he would buy some gadget and we would get our power or something turned off. 🤦🏻♀️ It always started arguments in our house, and now I have PTSD. Yay!
