Bread is actually really bad for ducks. It doesn't make them sick or anything, but it has little nutritional value to them and will make them feel full, so they eat less of the things that actually give them nutrients they actually need.

Like those parks where people regularly feed ducks bread only serves to leave them malnourished in the end. It'd be more productive to throw that bread away than to feed it to the ducks, it's not doing them any good at all

Honestly, I don’t see how throwing away rotten food is wasteful. If it is rotten, it is not edible.

Here’s why you don’t give away leftover food - even when you know it’s fresh

I used to work for a major food service company that serves food at stadia.

We used to give all of our leftover hotdogs to a homeless shelter at the end of the night.

At a different location, someone claimed they got sick from eating one and sued.

They were awarded $100,000

The hotdogs we gave the shelter were cooked an hour before they were given away and kept in a warmer at safe temp - less time than burgers at some fast food places.

Composting agencies? They may be able to turn the spoiled and rotten food into food for plants. Some work is involved for storage but that can be an option

Before the food spoils, you could give it away for free to the homeless

It’s so funny when people make comments like these cause food waste happens in every westernized country in the world not just in the US. This person clearly doesn’t have a good understanding of the world

If only there was some kind of website or search engine where you could ask whats safe for ducks to eat and receive the modern worlds knowledge in an organized fashion

This isn’t the issue with food waste. What is the issue is places like those donut shops that throw away perfectly good food just so they can make more fresh. It’s better for food to be used when it can.

There is so much food waste in the US. Is because if you donate food at or near its sell by date and someone gets sick, they can sue you.

Best thing to do with stale bread? Make croutons, goes very nice in a soup! Cut up bead and stick it in the oven!

Milad, I work in a breakfast restaurant and to be honest with you it is annoying seeing the waiter or waitress come in with the customers food and see it tossed in the garbage. It really annoys me because all that food that is going to waste could be given to somebody who actually needs it.

Something some local grocery stores do here is give out their produce and bread that they no longer can sell to farmers for feeding their animals. We have had pigs and got the food they couldn’t sell and got to use it as pig food so it didn’t go to waste

Personally I quite like stale cookies. If I buy cookies (British cookies (American's call them chocolate chip), not American cookies i.e. biscuits...) and they're hard, I will deliberately leave the bag open overnight and let the cookies go nice a soft as I prefer mine chewy over crunchy!

EDIT:
I mean when they're BIG cookies (subway size or bigger), not the small ones you can buy in packets.

In france we have an app called "too good to go" where any food provider can set up a "shop" and create boxes people can nuy for like 4 euros for subway and they just give you the cookies that would become stale the day after or so quantity depends but at my last town with a subsay sometimes i got lile 15 cookies because ppl didnt like one of the flavors or something but ye nothing much for other raw ingredients

My school always had corn, peas, carrots, and green beans on different days Monday through Thursday. On Friday they always had veg soup or mixed vegs. Hmm!

As one said you could have a sale we used to go get food at the gas station late at night cause it was old sometimes the would give us some items that were really old but others were half price, on the bread going stale most turn it into bread pudding which is something you can do for the family, crew, or actually get those disposable pans and donate it to homeless shelter of course

How bout give it too farmers to use as fertilizer for or maybe 2 hours before you close you do a sale and avocado you could lower the price of it costing extra by a little bed or you could try to grow an avocado plant to help subsidized the cost of it so that it doesn't costing extra
