The problem with self-help books is there's too much navel gazing and not enough action.

Inaction is a slow death. We like to think reading is always good. But someone who does nothing but reads is called a “book worm” they become passive. You can read the same books 5-20 times to internalize the info for life—or go book collecting like me and my father before me

One of the lessons I've learned of value recently that is worth it's weight in gold is taking everything off the pedestal! Jobs, people, goals, money... Take that off of the pedestal we put it on. When something is too important to me... I botch it. I get nervous and there is too much pressure on me that I've put on myself and I have an anxiety attack and I usually end up quitting. That's changed. I let my nervous system chill the hell out and look at everything as no more important than a quick trip to the grocery store. It keeps me balanced and has made all the difference for me.

Your book changed my life bro, especially the part about responsibilities and how we shouldn't throw them on other people

Learning self-help concepts feels great. A real dopamine boost. Implementing those concepts is seriously painful... at first.

I confirm. I did read your book, many of your blog posts, and also from other authors. It was soothing on the moment, and I re-read some passages once a while, but somehow I did not get myself to really implement any of what I read.

I've never believed anybody can change your life except yourself. I think books can help and they can give you an idea they maybe out of Steve in the right direction and that's okay and I got a marks. Book helped me a little bit not gonna make every decision for you still have to make good decisions in your life and become a better person and work at it constantly... My marriage had finished and I kind of was in a rut so I really needed to become a better person and I did and I worked on that seven years later. I'm in a great relationship and my life is fantastic....

This is soo true. I'm rethinking my goals based on this way of thinking.

Instead of "reading x amounts of books" I'm thinking more about "doing x amount of actions". Books are a way of helping but not the objective itself.

Without reading a few books you have no idea of which direction to go.
You also have no idea that change is possible. You don't know why your mind acts the way it does.
Yours was one of the first books I read, so I listened to the books of the authors you mention to get an idea of how you came to your conclusions.
I am currently reading about how the brain is structured in depth.
Knowledge is power and I'm so glad I read the subtle art first.

That is why I think that reading for the purpose of education with an intent of applying that knowledge, should yeild actual results. This only happens when you feel the need to know the aspect, that you want to be better. I hope I'm correct.

I have to disagree. It's not always about action. If a self-help book can help change your attitude or beliefs to/about certain things then reading and re-reading it serves as a reminder. Specifically, your books don't necessarily call for action, but a call to re-evaluate and challenge your ideas and beliefs.

I don't think that ancient Greeks new much about the science of habits, as James Clear describes it in "Atomic Habits". A book that HAS changed my life.

once you read 1-3 different self help books, you have roughly read all of them. As Mark has pointed out, the core ideas in all of them are the same, just said in a different way that maybe resonates with different crowds
