I decided to quit band after being mistreated by my section. They destroyed my confidence and traumatized me to the point where I was anxious anytime I was in band. I loved playing, and I loved performing, but they made it something scary instead.
Thankfully, the Color Guard found me and brought me in, giving me a home. We may not be considered part of the band to some, but we are there. I wish things had been different. But if they had, I might not have fallen in love with guard, or met the people along the way.

I dropped the flute in my 6th grade year, and it's probably one of my biggest regrets, because basically all of my friends are in my high school's marching band. I picked up the cello and am in orchestra which I honestly hate because the other cellists are rude. I wish that I could join the marching band's front ensemble or something with my cello so I can just be with my friends, but I'm too nervous to talk to the director 🥲

This video really relates to me. I play the clarinet and I wanted to quit band for a long time and the saxophone always has looked cool to me but we aren’t allowed to switch instruments now but we were over the summer but we had to learn the instrument we wanted to switch to over summer but I didn’t have the time for that so I stuck to clarinet even though it’s not my favorite. And I also have talked to my band teacher about quitting band numerous times because I wasn’t happy with my instrument but she wants me to be there and then I realized why I shouldn’t quit band.

I wanted to quit band for a long time but didn't for some reason. One day i broke and told the two other girls in my grade that played in the band how miserable i was, they talked to the band director for me and the next day there was a plertha of new instruments for me to try. I endes up switching a lot my 7th and 8th grade years by the time i was in highschool i found myself with the french horn and mellophone. I couldn't be happier with how my friends and band director handled things. Im currently doing the same thing with younger kids and teaching them other instruments in my spare time. With my experience i have successfully tought 6 kids 13 different instruments and could not be prouder of my little group😊

I used to play trumpet and was really good at it and won awards and medals and all that, and was first chair and had most of the solos, but my parents forced it onto me so much and i winded up hating it and i started doing Danceline and found a hobby that i absolutely adore. Who would've thought that dance wouldve been my thing??

I wanted to play flute at first, but no one signed up for tuba so I said, “alright I’ll step up.” I’ve enjoyed playing tuba for the past 6 years, and now after all that waiting I realized flutes are tiny and not that complicated, so I got one for $50 and play that whenever I’m at home.
Learning instruments is by far more enjoyable than playing them for me, I do love playing, but I loooooove learning.

Its so sweet how you let them switch... my band director just says if you quit you quit and he usaully chooses people to switch. Ex. Saxes switch to tenor/bari and any instrument can switch to percussion but he has to pick YOU and ask if YOURE okay with it. But i love how you ask then because i know plenty of people that hate their instrument but cant switch

this is definitely not the right channel for this but I’m sharing this anyway!!
back in middle school me and a bunch of my friends were all in orchestra and genuinely enjoyed it, but over time that experience was ruined because our teacher was too focused on trying to hard to be nice, and didn’t teach us anything. She had to be told by a visitor that she had to stop being so nice and tell us when we made mistakes. Once we entered high school, almost all of us (two stayed) quit because that experience ruined it for us.

i don’t know what to do anymore. I loved trumpet so much, and played all 3 years of middle school. But this year, my freshman year, my new director needed a f horn player. he had none. so he had 11 trumpets (including new freshman) and couldn’t take anymore. I don’t think i like f horn, but there’s nothing i can do. I lowkey cry, bc idk why but it just isn’t making me happy. and it’s so hard, bc i have no one actually teaching me if im playing the right notes or not, and partials. idk it’s so upsetting

ughh algorithm is gonna make me cry again
so basically i’m a sophomore (trumpet for 5 years, marching band for 3 and mello for 1) and my school has always had a really small marching band, but it’s been fun bc since we’re so small we’re all like family to each other. this year was my first year on a lot of things, first year on leadership, first year on mello, first year as section leader, and first year that i’ve actually felt at home in the marching band. i’ve grown a huge connection with these people, and here’s where it gets sad. my band director is not the greatest person to work with. he puts pressure on us as student leadership (a bunch of pressure, like we’re doing his job for him) and never lets us have fun. i don’t know how to explain everything that happens, but i can say that he is the reason my anxiety has been brought back and i have had 6 panic attacks in the last 8 months because of him.
many of my friends are leaving next year. for context, we have 17 people in mb and 5 of them are seniors. 9 people (including the seniors) are leaving next year and like 4 are debating because they can’t deal with this person who makes it so hard to have fun in band. all of the other student leadership are leaving, and i will be the only one left. i’m terrified to say the least. i’m not ready for this pressure and stress and i’m not ready to be the person that others rely on for 2 years. i’m going to be the oldest person there, as a junior. i am so scared and i have never been good with change. it breaks my heart to know that these people who once had a beautiful passion for band have been broken down by some guy who can’t get over himself.
i dont know what’s going to happen but i am going to miss them so so much. they are the first people to ever make me feel welcome in mb and i think the least i can do is try my hardest to not let my band director ruin something that has become a huge chunk of my heart.
thanks for reading, i’ve been thinking about this a lot and i’m truly scared. all thoughts and prayers would be welcome 🤍

i wanted to quit marching band (not concert band) after my section leader treated me horribly. They would purposely mistreat me because I was an 8th grader. Luckily they graduated and my section leader the next year was amazing and recommended the piccolo because of my range and being able to play extremely high! This year, I became section leader playing the piccolo! Not a huge switch but still a switch!

Lots of my friends quit band after getting into Highschool, so it’s just me and my best friend—but even though my section is a bit corrupted, I push past that and absolutely love talking to the great people in my band I’m even teaching a boy in the grade above how to play flute! The flute’s not for everyone but it’s definitely the thing for me, and when I’m older I’ll move onto Piccolo which is one of my dreams,
