@Chris Liepe

More often than not, voice type classification can lead to a limiting, self-defeating mindset. It's not that knowing your voice type isn't useful for some things, but I've primarily noticed that it becomes a vehicle for excuses and discouragement with the thousands of students I've worked with over the years. In this video, I suggest a better way to learn about your voice!

That’s what I love about Eddie Vedder, on top of being a great singer, he does some strange noises and stuff with his voice that are killer.

Absolutely! Yes I can sing Johnny Cash. I can also sing Sarah McLachlan and Chris Cornell because I never let anyone, even myself tell me I couldn’t sing something.

I hate classification but it's important in order to understand how to save your voice and how to work on it changing techniques! I was almost trashing my voice because my teacher was teaching me to sing belting with full chest voice but as heavy voice i need to use a mix technique.... Maybe it's not about classification but all about different techniques

Chris is, in my opinion, the best vocal coach, especially for rock singers such as myself. He has the ability to understand, direct, and explain so many facets of singing. I've learned an incredible amount from him in regards to finding MY voice, yet still being able to assimilate others individual styles into my own. Thank you!

P.S. them biceps looking swole son! Lol

As a baritone in musical theater, I find myself being extremely impatient and just want to stretch my chords already so I can finally hit those G’s and A’s and B’s.

Hi Chris I really need a video on how chino Moreno does his screams because all the other videos you have on him are kinda just on his use of his Faldo chords and tones but I need to know how he screams.

Great topic to discuss around, because one of my favorite death metal/deathcore singer Dickie Allen describes in this kind of way as well. One of the techniques he uses, he describes it as "making a Mickey Mouse/Bart Simpson voice" and then pushing distortion through that.

Honestly, unless you're singing in shows or operas, voice types are so unnecessary and their use is literally just vaguely figuring out what notes you can comfortably sing. I absolutely abhor the way that modern choir has led so many singers to believe that they were altos and couldn't sing high notes. The available education on singing is so lacking and inconsistent.

I love this channel. I send all my students to it as it's teaching good mental health, acceptance, and just correct information which just isn't common enough. It's also just entertaining so it's perfect for any age.

Can confirm, broke out of being just a "bass" through experimenting with brighter, more nasal timbres. Turns out I had a whole other octave and a half I didn't know I could sing.

(also learned that the "Alto" voice type basically describes the range every rock and pop song rests in, but I learned that I can, barely, get all of that range too)

I started off thinking I was mezzo soprano and maybe I am also more of a contralto or a mix. Cuz my range keeps getting wider

I was always a bass growing up. then i joined a band had to sing rock tenor.. yea that was eye opening haha Always just listening to a trying to sing different broadway numbers was fun and helpful. Jesus Christ Super Star for example, look at both the Jesus and Judas Roles, then listen to like pilate or Caiaphas such different variety that it helped me figure out what was feasible and what was just a pipe dream lmao
