At my daughter's high school, seniors were allowed to (appropriately) graffiti their personal stand. At the end of the year, seniors 'gifted' their stand to their favorite underclassmen to use the next year.

When I was in middle school there was a single good stand affectionately known as the Jazz Band Stand, because the kids in Jazz band had discovered it and kept it stored in a practice room so they could always find it. I wasn't in Jazz my first year of middle school, but I was also in the lower level band and all the kids in Jazz were in the higher level. So that meant that I could steal the good stand from the practice room and use it for my rehearsals, and since not very many people in my band knew about the secret Jazz Band Stand, I never had to fight anyone for it. It was amazing
