Not sure why people are downplaying the 1st Minnesota charge. I'd like to see the people charge against an enemy when the enemy has a 5 to 1 ratio on them. They were brave warriors.

While heroic, they were a speedbump for sure. What gave the Confederates pause was seeing Willards Brigade coming up behind the Minnesotans. Additionally, the gun line formed where the PA. Monument is today was a daunting sight. GETTYSBURG was truly a team win.

there a lot small parts like this that happened all over the place. This one instance on its own did not save the union only as much as the 20th Maine. Many units were dispatched and told to hold at all hazards and many sacrifices were made.
