To get fat, rich sounding chords try ditching the 3rd. The 3rd of the chord creates a pretty sound. When we get rid of the 3rd we get a fatter tougher sound.

For the G chord remove the note B
For the A chord remove the note C#
For the D chord remove the note F#

These chords sound great with a little overdrive.
