Correction: Usually it leads to a water tower which is often situated at a high point which then leads into your home so that you have constant preasure and don’t need to pay for pumping water into your home.
Edit: Yes I know that everyone doesn’t live in a city but it’s more often than not that people that have acces to tap water live in cities and most of the time what I stated earlier is true, hence why I said Usually

No there is a holding tank involved otherwise you would have to have a pump that runs continuously... Also there is usually a filter system as water that comes from the ground is full of dirt

You can only suck water up 33 ft. most wells have a submersible pump at the bottom.
