In college in the early 80s, before computers, a friend of mine made up fake coupons for a pizza by the slice place on campus. I wrote, “The joke’s on us this April Fools Day because we’re giving you a free slice of pizza and a soft drink.” We put them in the dorm mailboxes of maybe 20 friends and acquaintances thinking it would be funny to hear about them being tossed out of the store for scamming. We were about to head over to the restaurant to see if we could watch some of our friends get rejected when my friend’s roommate returned to the dorm. He told us he received a coupon in the mail and went for a free slice. When he presented his coupon, the manager told him it was a fake and that people have been bringing them in all day. They thought it was kind of funny so they started to honor them. He got a free slice of pizza. We were kind of tempted to get a free slice of our own but we didn’t want to push it.

I knew someone that would go order their sandwich, obviously it gets made in front of you before you pay so dude would say he forgot his wallet and the poor worker let him get away with it like 3 times before they banned him.

None of the subways around me accept any coupons (even the nationwide corporate ones). That was the final straw for eating there, on top of their price increases.
