Why France Fell SO QUICKLY in 1940 during the German Invasion of France

In 1940, the rapid defeat of France by Nazi Germany can be attributed to a combination of strategic, operational, and political factors. The German Blitzkrieg tactics, characterized by swift and coordinated movements of mechanized infantry, artillery, and air support, caught the French and other Allied forces off guard. The Ardennes Forest, considered by the Allies to be impassable for large military movements, became the focal point of the German attack, allowing them to outflank the heavily fortified Maginot Line.

Moreover, communication and coordination issues within the French command structure hindered a unified response. The speed and flexibility of the German forces exploited these weaknesses, leading to encirclements and the isolation of significant French units. Additionally, the fall of France was exacerbated by political divisions, a lack of modernization in French military doctrine, and a failure to fully grasp the innovative nature of German warfare. The combination of these factors led to the swift and unexpected collapse of France in the spring of 1940.

The vanity, haughtiness and arrogance of the French military leadership were the biggest factors in Germany's rapid defeat of France.

Poor leadership, no reserves, poor strategic and tactical planning is why France fell in 1940.
France really doesn’t deserve the mockery that they had in WW2.

The French fought harder & lost many more lives to combat than the BEF, whose ignominious flight to Dunkirk, & panicked scramble to abandon their ally, always amazes in its jaw dropping ability to garner admiration !
As a matter of fact, I wonder if the BEF’s causalities can even begin to be respectfully compared to those suffered by, say, the Belgian forces ?….
France also had to cope with Italy’s revanchist swipe at Nice & much of the Provençal & Savoyard south-east,..giving them a jolly good what-for, though, into the bargain.
And we’d best not even start on poor old Poland’s lonely army…😢

Do you think the surrender was a smart choice in the long run ro buy them enough time and keep resources on board including troops? I know france was basically overrun and parts had shadow governments, but im not super aware of how much they were able to help when the allies fonally arrived.

The French lost the battle, the German's won. Why? Answer: better strategic doctrine, united political leadership, and modern weapons in breath. The lack modernization in depth of weapons in French Army. Not to mention poor discipline also contributed to its defeat. If you do not believe me, then pay attention to this short documentary.

The Germans had great training of command. They could work in large groups or in 3or 5.They could replace officers killed. The SS were taken to the US after the war to study German tactics.
