Durian is very acquired taste. some people like it at first try, some don't. Musang King is peak durian but no beginner would be able to process it. it's like trying the hardest level right away. no, you gotta start from the mild one first. your taste buds ain't developed yet. it still new to the taste. you need to work your way up. try the beginner friendly durian that have strong sweetness and less bitter. once you used to it, Musang King and other strong ones will taste like heaven

It's generally described to smell like a gas leak. That's why it's banned from public indoor or enclosed locations, because it might accidentally trigger some panic. I find it doesn't really taste a lot like what it smells. The taste can't really be described very accurately, it's one of those that you really have to try to know the exact taste, there is nothing else that you can really accurately compare it to. But if I do have to describe it, it's like a bittersweet custard with a kick. It's a fruit that is an acquired taste, so people don't generally like it on the first or second try, but the more they eat, the more they like it. (For some people)
Here a fun fact for people who like to eat durian but don't like the lingering smell on your fingers or mouth. If you take the empty shell of the durian and use it like a bowl, drink some water from it and it should get rid of the smell and counter the heatiness. Alternatively if you run the seed of the durian under water and rub your fingers on the smooth woody bit of the seed, the smell would be mostly gone too. It's a fascinating fruit.
