I always thought that the bear pajamas were to kind of show the more innocent side of Lain prior to being exposed to the wire/internet, where's her wearing a regular nighty when she first got connected to the wire symbolized the loss of that innocence, growing up, and newfound confidence as she's much more assertive and willing to argue back in that form. Sort of like how the internet has the ability to taint a child's innocence in real life through all the crazy stuff they can find on it.... idk, that was just what I got from it.

The sound design is crazy too. Theres a lot of white noise (or really, power line noise) if not total silence, giving this whole eerie vibe underneath what were shown, hinting at more going on without saying a word or showing a thing.
