Another mistakes do exist as well: 1.after Cesar died, he was breathing in the scene. 2. In the first battle in the collesuem, when the black guy gave him the sword, he called him maximus, but it was before removing his helmet, so how he knew his name is maximus, but it was a great movie anyways

Lol...there was Hispania Citerior and Hispania Ulterior which designed what we today call Spain. I am sure they had a name for people from Hispania in Latin. But the movie is in English, so it makes sense that the name/word they use is English.

Rome named the iberian peninsula "Hispania" they even had a legion named after it: the 9th legion hispania. A person from hispania in roman latin would be called "hispanus", but the movie is in english so they call him spaniard instead. There you have it.

By the same logic it would be impossible that Romans would be speaking modern English...
A movie has to communicate the story to it's audience. Spaniard is far more understandable for people today

This is so dumb. The movie is in English. The Romans called the Iberian peninsula Hispania. I'm sure they had a word that meant "someone from Hispania." Or, as we say in English, a Spaniard.

But you have to remember that French is a Romance language and a large amount of French words come from (Latin) Also The Iberian Peninsula was also referred as (Hispania) in Latin. But the French got the word from the Latin, and I believe the Greeks also used it. But the word is used in present day U.S English to refer to (Hispanics) or (Latinos) If the movie would have used the word (Hispanic) to refer the character it would have not made sense but using but (Spaniard) makes more sense because now the word (Hispanic) is used to refer to a person from S. America or Central America not a person from Spain.

Maximus never dies ..the reason why he is describe as Spaniard because some of his fellow members knew he live near that border..the movie began there in the gates.. of the mountains near the Spaniards colony.. the Spanish island have been around for so long...so this guy is not accurate giving the interview is not accurate... Maximus knew is was not from Spain but. Germania a quiet farm near Spain boarder.. is like Christ. is he from Nazareth or Bethlehem...
