You gave the customer a prediction of what was going to happen if you proceeded. The prediction came true. The customer should not have been surprised, just acquiescent to the situation.

When I used to install range hoods, I caused damage to my first customer's electric range by cracking the glass top. Thankfully, they were also switching to a gas stove and said it was okay. However, I still gave them a discount the following week. I ended up getting three more customers from them because they told others about my service.
