Pasta fact# italians tend to prefer 'striped' (rigata) pasta over 'smooth' (liscia) pasta. Like penne rigate vs penne lisce. Penne lisce are especially infamous for being the most hated pasta. Funny enough, famous chefs say that pasta liscia is better since it will cook more evenly! Btw, ditalini also means fingering. You'll get a lot of comments about it so get ready!

I suppose italini may come from thimble (for sewing). The word "ditalino" Might also refer to a sexual practice

Hi Katie, buongiorno,
this message has nothing to do with pasta shapes. A week ago, while I was surfing on You Tube, I discovered a channel by an Italian couple who, until the outbreak of Covid 19, have traveled on a minivan from Alaska to Patagonia for nearly 3 years. Before leaving Italy they opened this YouTube channel, called it "Leaw" (leave everything and wander) and have been uploading videos on it on a weekly basis.
My great surprise came on discovering where they are actually based: less than 500 m of air from where I live! On the other side of the valley, more or less at the same altitude. Honestly they are not the kind of people I would look foward to meet : from what I got about them by watching some of their videos, they must be that sort of wealthy people who, feeling bored, decide to start a spartan and adventurous life style. Further, they don't seem to want having contacts with local people and do care a lot about their privacy. She lived in Como for four years and they just have been there last week (like you and your husband).
I ' ve discovered also that he used to be model and took part in a TV show, "Ballando con le stelle", a contest between non dancer VIPs trained by professional ones.
So... why am I suggesting you to have a look at their You Tube channel? First because they speak a good English (not perfect), and also because often in their videos they cook. (I've just watched a few of them) Anyway, I think you may be curious to see...
