One of the greatest jump scares in cinematic history. I remember watching Fellowship on opening night, and when this happened, you could feel the air pressure in the theater go down as everybody sucked in their breath at once.

Such an important scene in the trilogy when Frodo gets his first taste of what the ring will do to him. Makes you feel an incredible sadness and immense sympathy for them both. Plus it's a great jump scare.

What stayed with me more was Bilbo's grief and remorse. It's sort of glossed over in the book, but it's one of the changes in the movie that I thought were well-done and it was very poignant.

This scare still gets me all these years later.
It shows that even though Bilbo held the ring fo only 60 years while Smeagol had it for 500+ years he was still slowly becoming corrupted like gollum even if it wasn't in the exact same way
