Seeing people take accountability has become a foreign concept. It is so refreshing to hear someone admit a wrong, apologize and rectify the issue. Especially someone that is highly trained, but admits they are not impervious to error.

What a miracle that someone tells the truth about what happened when a mistake is made. I'm proud that this man represented the US even if he made a mistake.

My brother flew the A7 and FA18, he was a Captain in the Navy, in Vietnam. He's in the Navy museum for 1000 traps. He knew the Blue Angels, Gerald Pike. My hero, I love you brother.

Got pilots license at 18, joined Civil Air Patrol. Squadron had an L-4 [stripped down J-3 Cub] that I loved to fly. Mostly fence hopping in the fields next to I-5 south of Eugene. So yeah I relate, fortunately the L-4's speed was low enough the fences never surprised me. [couldn't outrun anything on the freeway unless I had a 30mph tailwind]

I remember seeing this as a kid. I had a family friend whose father was the fire chief. As kids, we were able to sit on the top of the fire truck, probably 50 feet off the runway, watching this amazing show. Can do that anymore.

True to this day. Eventually sloppy or cocky performance will bite you. Glad he wasn't hurt and learned from it.

This level of accountability is instrumental in maintaining the exceptional quality of Blue Angels pilots.

THIS. This is what being a team player, and introspective means. Good judgment comes from experience; experience comes from Bad judgment. But the key to leadership character is the way he finishes up this reel. He explains how he was counseled (which he ignored); then he explains how he fucked up (which is direct, honest, and accurate without excuse making or blaming others); and then he apologizes and uses himself fucking up as a learning story for his team mates and the younger guys he's leading. THIS IS EXCELLENT.

Always good for someone to get a bit of humility and learn from it.

The A-4 Skyhawk was the coolest little jet. We had a Squadron of them on the Big E.

When someone says their own ego was out of control? Instant respect. That's step one in becoming wise.
