I could hear that part of the bass playing was backwards, but i didnt know that only half of the solo was, and that it was the same as the first half

From what I understand Kumalo tried in vain to find pedal hardware to replicate the effect at the time, and eventually learned to play the near impossible lick for live performances.

My Dad was a session bassist in the 70s & 80s. He toured with bands that were on the OG 80s MTV. He taught bass guitar to many students. This bass solo kept him up at night and drove him (not literally) crazy trying to learn it. The illusive bass line that seemed ridiculous to play in real time. Until he learned it was reversed. No joke, he plays jazz piano now…
