"You Only Live Twice" is also my favorite Bond novel. It's interesting in its setup, tragic on its narrative, dreamlike in its setting and provides a grand closure to the feud between Blofeld and Bond. Unlike other novels in the OO7 Canon, this one feels highly unique and inventive.

You are not alone in heralding Fleming’s “You Only Live Twice”. It’s very wistful and poignant. The passages where Bond engages with Tanaka is exceptionally well done—it touches on the ephemeral nature of things as it relates to geopolitics and the enigma of life itself.

You have a much darker edge than I give you credit for. That book is dark, very dark! Even Blofeld's demise is dark. This book is the dark slide downward of both Bond and Fleming. It is a great novel but hardly a pick-me-up.

I enjoyed You Only Live Twice too! My top three though are OHMSS, From Russia With Love, and Casino Royale. Are you a fan of the Horowitz books? I had a great time reading With a mind to kill.

It's really unfortunate that they couldn't have adapted the Blofeld trilogy to film in that order. Perhaps they still can.
