I found a mountain top covered in these birch near Tillamook Oregon. As I explored the area I found signs of an old logging site, including roads nearly completely taken back by the forest, some scrap logs piled and rotting, even a piece of very old cable twisted into a stump. Later I found out that this was the location that my grandfather had logged before my mom was born. In fact, they (Grandpa and Grandma) had built a camp site and lived on that hill until mom was born. This is where we spread all 3 of their ashes. Miss you guys.

It means wet fertile soil, low brush pollution, and better land for clearing. A lodge pole pine will grow anywhere. But birch means it's a good spot to live.

If it was pasture, the disturbance ENDED when the birch started growing.

Oh wow very cool! We have a pasture we are letting be reclaimed a bit near the woods the border our yard, we have tons of white birch on the border and up to 10 feet inside the tree line. I guess it’s been being reclaimed for a while😂
