During the Cold War, America developed a single air-to-air nuke that could devastate entire bomber fleets in mid-air. Thankfully, it was only ever fired in testing.

I remember it well. The AIR-2A was a proximity weapon. (Didn't have to hit the target) After firing, the interceptor would turn hard and expose its belly to protect it from the blast.

In the late 70s they considered making an air-to-air variant of the 200kt AGM-69, but it never came to fruition.

Sounds like we need to bring it back, extend the blast zone, and use them against the so called hypersonic missiles threatening us

Nike was an nuclear Sam and some were stationed in Libtard San Francisco. There has always (since 1950's) nuclear bomb defense.

Lol. That's logistically insane. How many were made? What were the odds they could be ready to go on the right airframe and on time for intercept?

The F106 in the first image was from my former unit. The 144TH Fighter Wing based in Fresno California. The reason they lost their Genie Rockets was due to a mishap durning a O.R.I.

The footage of the five at ground zero that. Was a nuke detonated a few thousand feet above them all five lived most into old age . Radiation disapates pretty fast in air if it contacts the earth the soil can hold the radiation for years . The damage to electronics is the key to a airburst taking planes down maybe rockets guidance systems too .

This was one of the only nuclear weapons the Canadian military ever fielded.

Launching was one thing, doing the escape maneuver to get away from the shockwave.

You should also cover the Nike nuclear missiles. There's nuclear missile batteries all over it the San Francisco Bay area that were totally willing to use ground-to- airburst Newk's within 400 miles of major US cities. Los Angeles had a lot of the batteries as well

Canada also operated the Nuclear-armed BOMARC along with the USAF. I am aware that the Soviets had Nuclear-armed SAMs, did they have A2A missiles that were nuclear too?
