I believe the term changed meanings in the early 00's. The people who use the term today dont mean it the same way people used the term 30,40,50+ yrs ago. They grew up in a house that didnt have time to go to church both parents worked. Everything around them was good other than the fact mom and dad was absent due to work or starve. So life without god seems doable, easy, like a simple choice. However the more time goes by the more we see, there are just people out there that need a higher authority to punish them later or they just cant handle decision making because they see no negatives to their bad decisions.

i disagree; my "lack of belief" is literally a belief in the opposite. i dont believe that a god exists.
now, if you as a theist have a problem with that, then show me your god. show me your god and i will be more than happy to not only believe that your god exists, but KNOW that said god exists.
the burden of proof still lies with the person making the positive claim
