Oh, yes. I love the "Everyone does that! You're just using that as an excuse. You're focusing too much on letting it control you. If you really wanted, you could avoid that."
I gave up trying to explain to someone on reddit who has been tested multiple times and been denied a diagnosis of ASD and ADHD that wanting to be diagnosed as such doesn't mean you have it. They may be either &/or both, but labeling yourself as such when you've been tested repeatedly every couple months for a few years and told you're not either is disingenuous and may be a disservice for those who have been diagnosed, who have faced discrimination because of their diagnoses. It's like throwing a service animal vest on a dog that's not a service animal, not been properly trained as one, blah blah blah. Claiming something that isn't true does harm to the greater community.
Okay. I'm done with my gripes.
Love that you're helping others learn more about this very complex and diverse community.
