In another interview where Toriyama gave Mr.satan and piccolo as his favorite characters depend on whether or not the questions want funny characters(aka Mr satan) or a bit more balanced (piccolo), he even started by saying something along the line of “excluding Goku cuz that’s the main character”. So yeah, Piccolo is def a favorite character of Toriyama, but Goku is like the de facto number one in Toriyama mind
