My pick: the Sony Walkman. The first to open the door to music that can be listened to anywhere, even when walking. You can see one laying a shelf, or in a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy, and still instantly recognize what it is.

I read a lot of comments and realised that the most people are not thinking that the iPod is the most iconic piece of Hi-Fi. In my opinion it is. I use my 16 years old ipod mini with a sd card mod to play nearly 500 albums in cd quality on the go. Isnt this reduculous. I love it 😄

For me, Jana is hands down the most iconic right now, cos I listen with much happiness when she speaks. Her voice is music to my ears😁

I pick the Quad 57 electrostatic loudspeaker. Designed in 1957 over 60. years ago, this speaker set a new standard for transparency and musical realism. Today the speaker is still considered by many listeners to be the most realistic sounding loudspeaker within its frequency limitations with the most natural midrange ever.

In my opinion is the Technics 1200 series turntable, revolutionized the music industry, changed how parties were made, created a whole new profession DJs that some converted into producers and techno musicians. At the same time has allowed the vinyl industry to be kept as a profitable medium of sourcing music. Cheers !

My dad bought a pair of AR2ax speakers and played jazz music pretty much any time that he was home. I did not really listen to the jazz music as a nine or ten year old kid, but music of John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Joe Pass was ingrained into my brain by the AR speakers. As I got older, I listened to Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, The Butterfield Blues Band and other music that honed my musical tastes on my dad’s system on the AR2ax speakers. Over the years, I’ve owned a bunch of stereo gear, including dad’s reconditioned AR2ax’s. I now listen to all sorts of music including Jazz, Blues, Rock, Americana, and Bluegrass. For, there is no stereo gear that is as iconic as the AR2ax speakers.

For me the most iconic piece of hifi gear is the ls3/5a speaker. Been around since 1975 and over 60,000 have been sold via various licensed manufacturers. Still going strong today.

I think the Music Compact Cassette was the most iconic set in (recent) HiFi history. The MCC enabled people to consume and create music at the same time! All in a budget friendly and portable package.

The JBL L100 Classic is a wonderful and iconic piece of audio gear. The L100 is a modern take on the great sounding L100 released in 1970 and I don't think anyone can forget the orange grill or "blown away" ad to this day.

Speaking as someone under the age of 20, among peers my age, it has to be the Schiit Modi. That product (and Schiit Audio in general) did more to bring people into the hifi-fold than anything else in recent memory.

I think the B&W Nautilus is iconic - it challenges the idealist notion of a traditional hi fi system visually. A beautiful amalgamation of science and art! Tough question this as it’s quite subjective 😊

The most iconic hi-fi gear is obviously THE DOORSTOP! It looks good, it's cheap, works well and make everyone itch their head thinking: "OMG! DO I NEED ONE?".

Hi John, my favourite Hi-Fi was the Sony mini disc. Loved creating my own playlist. Bought from Richer sounds Brighton 1998. Favourite night club was the Pink Coconut on a Saturday Night. 1987 until it changed to the paradox. Also the Mansion House Worthing

The gramophone, as seen in the iconic His Master's Voice logos. Surely anyone that has ever had so much as a passing interest in music would recognise it.

The turntable! It plays the records we love(d) in these days and encouraged the ‘hunger’ for A more lively (HiFi)-ish presentation still!

Technics 1200 - It’s been in my life for over 25 years and still seams to be loved still by many. Not the most hifi turntable but it’s solid, lasts forever and u can DJ with it, so as for its usability it’s a 10/10. Never been beaten by anything else in its catagory (unless it’s the updated versions by technics themselves)

It's hard to imagine how anything could have progressed without the TEAC A3300 or any of their advanced line of reel-to-reel recorders having given people extreme control over their personal musical experience for the first time. What it did was breathtaking, but more so was how it looked — lights, meters... It was the gateway for so many.
