We definitely prefer it hot. We bought a pour-over thing for backpacking but never use it. We just favor the little instant packages, some of which can be very good.

Depends. On my CT thru hike l had a limited time frame, so early morning cold coffee on the go was the norm. On other trips, I stop and smell the hot coffee!
