It’s a constitutional republic. We don’t elect judges and originally didn’t elect senators. They were appointed by the state legislatures to defend state rights. The congress was supposed to defend people’s rights and therefore was elected. If you wonder why the federal government has gotten so big it’s because we got rid of a check and balance in 1913 that defended states rights. 1913 was a bad year for our government. The federal reserve act was passed as well as the legalization of federal income tax.

Indeed, this is a beautiful country! I say that as a immigrant (legal), the first thing I did when I got my green card was run to my local recruiter’s office, 3 tours to Iraq later and I’m still ready to die for her.
