That sounds awfully close to the concept of human trafficking.

This is what traffickers do to their victims. Just saying…

Holding someone's documents hostage is like the #1 tactic used to prevent victims of human trafficking from leaving. Definitely not saying that serving a mission is the same as being trafficked, but that's a rather alarming thing to have in common

In the corporate world, holding someone’s passport hostage is one of the ways we’re taught to identify human trafficking. This is human trafficking. Period.

Hold on. I live in Japan and that’s straight up illegal here. Non residents are required to have their passport on them at all times of face serious legal consequences. I would assume other countries also have a similar rule. So that’s not only supremely messed up and a cult tactic, but also some missionaries could potentially take legal action against the church for that.

Isn’t this one of the hallmarks of human trafficking…

Sounds like hmmm a cult. Coercive slavery. Religion should be free, we want freedom of religion or freedom of no religion but also freedom within religions.

And let us not not forget that these missionaries are PAYIMG to be on this mission. So they are paying money to be unknowingly trapped in another country.

I’ve always had an open door policy for the missionaries. I feed them. I know they’re not eating well and do not have the means. I play their fav music. I send them home with blankets when it’s cold, and they have little to no heat. I let them know on the dl I will help them with food, Medical care or other needs they may have like, going home or calling their moms for help. They’re KIDS. How dare the church. Shame on them.

You have to carry ID in Germany. Being found without docs means you have to explain where they are, will have to present them within a certain time frame, and probably will be fined. And that means that taking away someone's passport is illegal.

Qatar and Dubai literally do the same thing to slaves building their cities today. Mormonism hasn’t had slaves…since the 1850s when Brigham Young had them, but I still see the similarities.

The way the missions are micromanaged makes me wonder why any of the missionaries remain in the church. The poor victims must be very broken souls afterward. Sounds very totalitarian.

It’s confusing to be called an elder and treated like a child

So the Church is stealing their Freewill and telling them basically they aren't responsible enough to take care of passport!!😮

I've been following this channel for a bit, and when I mentioned it to my mother she told me that, right before she met my father, she was about to become mormon. She was supposed to get baptised and simply didn't show up to church the day of the baptism. She was christian at the time, but she became suspicious of the church when she saw that they were willing to baptise her in a very short time. I would definitely not have existed if she had gone through with it, since my father's beliefs and lifestyle are very incompatible with mormon rules.

Someone takes my child passport in a foreign country. They better be REALLY hard for me to find. The fact parents are okay with this is heartbreaking.

I had no idea the church did this to missionaries. That is quite disturbing.
