In business, there's a non-dissertation option. Popular with working people who want the knowledge & prestige of reading up to that level. But, have no use for a research-based approach in their jobs. DBA, I think. Probably get that if you finish all the classes but can't get past the dissertation. Wonder if there's something similar for other departments?

I thought you have to have masters before you can do a PhD? Or are you talking about a combined university course, like my son did combined graduate and masters degree?
