The most magical hikes in the Bavarian Alps — more info and difficulty ratings below 🧚🏼‍♀️👇

The Bavarian Alps are a dream come true for nature lovers with their majestic peaks, serene lakes and enchanting forests. Every hike here feels like stepping into a storybook and some of its landscapes look like straight out of a painting. Here’s a breakdown of my favourite walks in our recent winter road trip:

Schleifmühlklamm (4/10): A hidden gem filled with cascading waterfalls and lush greenery. The trail is short and easy, but it does have some slippery sections so make sure to bring sturdy shoes!

Neuschwanstein Viewpoint (5/10): This trail overlooks one of the most famous castles in the world and it’s a moderate climb with some extra scrambling if you want to see the mountain views, but totally worth it. The forest trail is much nicer than the concrete walk, but a little bit steeper and more slippery!

Kuhfluchtfälle (5/10): Another trail with lots of gorgeous cascading waterfalls in a beautiful forest setting. The trail has a few steeper sections and the last third past the bridge is a bit of a climb.

Schwansee (3/10): A serene lakeside hike surrounded by snowy peaks and views on Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castle. It’s ideal for a peaceful walk or swimming with easy paths.

Partnachklamm (3/10): This dramatic gorge feels like stepping into another world, with narrow paths carved into the cliffs and the rushing river below. The hike is fairly easy but a bit longer (especially if you’re walking from town), and it can be crowded — we visited at 9am when it was still quiet!

Eibsee (6/10): Often called the “Pearl of the Bavarian Alps,” Eibsee is a stunning emerald green alpine lake at the foot of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. The loop trail has some incredible views on the mountains and their reflections. It’s an easy walk but long enough to feel like an adventure 🌿
