Personally I think that the repeater carbine is an excellent close range weapon, early game or not.
You put a couple of .357’s in someone and they’re not getting back up again in a hurry.
The same goes for the SK59 with a scope. A vastly underrated weapon with easy to find and plentiful ammo.

.22 is my favorite pistol, super quiet and like you say it one taps any unarmored target+ammo is fairly abundant

The difference is that 7 round grandpa's gun will stagger zombies if you get overwhelmed, not to mention will kill/uncon with less body shots which are far more likely than headshots in a chaotic firefight. It's a trade-off.

Fun fact about the Vz. 61 "Skorpion", if you were to just hold the trigger down, you'll empty the mag before a single casing hits the ground
