Console DayZ is like 97% bandits😂 people are often stunned when you actually speak and help them and they still half expect you to off them in the process. Probably has something to do with the casual aspect of console and a lot of people not knowing where to find real PvP and actually win outside the coas

I agree, but they should do something about the cheaters. I've been playing on CeasefireRP, which is mostly PvE. There's not so much KoS, but there are some PvP opportunity. The biggest threat is to be robbed.
On official, I like to play pure pacifist (no killing, although chicken may be necessary early game). The PVP KoS situation makes it feel more like a horror movie and I'm the main character, too dumb to wield a weapon. There's something about that constant fear of dying that make the game feel so unique.

Best way to play the game is how you want
It’s said in the trailer “your only goal is to survive.”
But hey for me personally I play a mixed style.. I’ll mostly be friendly with my buddy but observe from a distance and listen to tone of voice and pay attention to body language
Both voice and language will give you a sign if the person is genuinely friendly or you need to pull a bullet in their head asap
And observing from the distance will tell you if you just need to put a bullet in them,. Before you put yourself at that risk

I once logged back into my house just to realise the gate i put had got one of those 4 digit number locks on them. I never cracked the code and just left. I hate raiders who lock you in your own base and takes away all hope.. Killing me open field is alright, but ruining my chance of ever escaping is diabolical 💀

this is so fucking true and its honestly what gives DayZ so much replayability, at least to me. I get tired after playing it too long, put it down after a long while, and when I get on again I just want to survive for as long as I can. I avoid encounters, i stick to lesser known routes, i slowly gear up... then I start looking for PVP, so i start getting into more fights, or head to the coast... then I inevitably die, lose all the gear I was so stressed over, and start just running around the coast looking for encounters and teams.
This freeform approach to player interaction is what makes DayZ so amazing. Anything other than absolute uncertainty as to a player's intentions would ruin it
