My favorite thing about the DLC and Messmer's forces is that, for as horrible as their crusade was, you find out that there wasn't only a lot more nuance to their motives (-cough cough- Shaman jars -cough-), but each and every person who joined the crusade did so out of genuine devotion and sympathy to Messmer'a cause. Like every item description for the Fire Knights and all the soldiers, when it wasn't referencing the brutality of the crusade, talked about how all the soldiers and knights were willingly exiled from their homes to join Messmer out of seemingly genuine sympathy, that Messmer taught his knights personally their fire incantations, and that Messmer gave them all grace in abundance. Like I have to assume I'm missing a lot of horrible things that Messmer did other than crusading against the Hornsent (flooded church town, that one Black Knight that rebelled against Messmer, the blatant anti-tarnished message of the crusade), but genuinely he sounds like such a nice guy to those that actually bonded with him. Not a good person by any measure, but one side of a war where both sides were fucked up and also sympathetic in some way, shape or form

And during that time radagon was their champion of gold while Godfrey was their lord.
Amongst many force in land between the caria on their prime is the only one that godfrey and radagon with their man cant bring down to its knee
