you are a really clever guy. big thinker. resonate with your opinion and i can't put it into sentences like you, that make sense like this to me. i think it is great articulation about the problem that is so hard to really nail. i think this is a great point! stop protecting the propaganda with greedy self interest undertone. "b-but america is slightly better than north korea" is kinda not a valid argument with this declaration and specific context, to me.

I've long felt that information should be private, secret or public. The struggle I've had is that I also want creators to be paid (assuming capitalism). The current system prioritizes distributors and publishers. Show me a way to freely distribute information (including art, music, copy, vid...) that also pays creators and I'm on board. But publishers will fight us to the death.

In the US, the punishment for violating copyright isnt done because the government wants to - it is a CIVIL matter. That means the violation is of SOMEONE ELSE'S ownership rights of the work; that has nothing to do with the government's opinion in it. It is treated similar to theft of that person's property.
If you duplicate the novel of some author and start selling copies if it yourself, you are depriving the author of that income, which is theft with extra steps.

Benn trying to trick us into thinking that opressive government censorship and piracy are the same thing
That parralel is quite a reach. I mean, they both feature DVDs and prison. But that's where it ends.
Its like when people equate jobs with slavery. They both feature labor, but the commparisons really should stop there.
(Still love Benn's work and opinions thoš

Corporations getting an effectively unlimited monopoly on ideas is an irrational burden on society, and the means of enforcement are extreme. Insert anti-piracy clip from The IT Crowd here, once it's out of copyright in your country.
