I've never made a string trellis before, so hopefully this works well for my snow peas!

This entire raised bed is a new (and unplanned) addition to our garden. Every year we remove a little more lawn to add more space for growing food.

Unfortunately, we had already planted garlic in this area... They're growing so well - I can't move them.

But instead of being frustrated by my last minute change in plans, I'm looking at this as an opportunity to test a companion planting rule.

The usual advice is to avoid planting garlic with peas (or beans) as it can stunt the growth of the peas.

Let's see what happens!

Also, if I had known that I was going to build a new trellis, I would have bought a variety of peas that grows taller.

These are the Oregon Sugar Pod II seeds from West Coast Seeds, and they technically only grow to 30" (although mine were significantly taller last year).

The cedar wood is from Rona and the cotton twine is from Canadian Tire.
