Should You Play Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in 2024?

Assassin's Creed stands as an expansive gaming franchise in the realms of open-world, action-adventure, and stealth genres. Ubisoft, the publisher, primarily entrusts the development to its studio, Ubisoft Montreal, utilizing the Anvil game engine and its more advanced iterations. Conceived by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the video game series explores a fictional, age-old conflict between the Order of Assassins advocating for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar seeking peace through order and control. The narrative weaves together historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters, intricately entwined with genuine historical events and figures. Throughout most games, players navigate the storyline by assuming the role of a historical Assassin, concurrently experiencing the perspective of an Assassin Initiate or a character entangled in the present-day Assassin–Templar conflict. Recognized as a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed drew inspiration from Vladimir Bartol's novel "Alamut," which, in turn, is rooted in the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

Black flag really shows how both Assassins lore/narrative and a popular topic like pirates can coexist perfectly, something I think they couldn't replicate with the "Origin" trilogy

Black Flag isn't the biggest map, but there is no shortage of things to do.
There are an assortment of missions, treasure hunting, liberating plantations, naval bases, whaling, bell diving, and assassination contracts. I found myself just taking a break from the quests to hoard sugar and rum. Also, the 4 legendary naval battles! You'll want the Jackdaw kitted out 💀

Modern day gameplay has its charm imo with all the hacking, the story you unfold with it and the tablets scattered here and there with extra info, it's just a different focus from the classic ACs. Movement animations are also some of the best in the franchise maybe behind Unity and Syndicate and I'm not talking about parkour, but walking and running, they are very smooth and realistic animations

For people who haven’t played the series, it’s a great introduction. I really wish Ubisoft would’ve approached the RPG trilogy with similar story concepts (except odyssey because there really wasn’t a way Kassandra could join something that didn’t exist). That being said, I would probably tell most people to start at the Ezio trilogy. That’s what solidified my love for the series

What's wrong with the modern timeline? I think it's quite good. I know it's no Desmond story but it's better than the modern timeline of Valhalla or Origins

Nah Black Flag is like Odyssey and Valhalla it’s not a great AC game but the greatest pirate game. Story is meh but Edward and his personal story and self growth is fantastic aswell as some side characters, the world is great. But again it’s a great pirate game that looks beautiful, with meh story and villains both forgettable with an even worse present day and let’s not even mention the multiplayer being the worst in the franchise. It’s a great game just not a great Assassin’s creed game

This game sucks. Origin sucks. Played valhalla twice. Finished odyssey, it was ok. The add-ons really really sucked! Now all of the bigots are hating on a blk Samurai!😅😅😅😅 Origin was 80% Roman lore and prejudices, no one complained! There wasn't 1 African in odessy (when everyone knows the Greek world got a large part of their identity from egypt) no one cared. Tom cruise portrayed a white samurai, white America celebrated it. Yaske actually existed.
