Title: Why Outlaw Star is the Best '90s Sci-Fi Anime
In the late '90s, three sci-fi anime captivated fans: Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Trigun. These shows expertly blended down-to-earth stories with the excitement of space exploration. But one truly stood out for me.
While Cowboy Bebop and Trigun leaned into their Western motifs, Outlaw Star offered something unique. It infused Eastern elements, showcased a wide array of alien characters, and delivered stunning space battles. And let’s not forget the iconic cat girls.
What sets Outlaw Star apart is its deep sci-fi essence, especially highlighted in the end credits. Legendary sci-fi artist Hicaru Tanaka created breathtaking images for the show's endings. These images evoke the spirit of old sci-fi movies and novels, from a time when space travel was purely imaginative. Hicaru completed the first five paintings for the "Daytime Moon" ending in just two weeks, drawing inspiration from Akino Arai's hauntingly beautiful song.
Outlaw Star isn't just another sci-fi anime; it's a masterpiece that sparks the imagination. What's your favorite sci-fi show from the '90s? Let me know in the comments below!
