This room remodel was more than just another room for me. Last month, I received news about my oldest daughter. It’s a tough topic for me to talk about as it’s something I never imagined hearing from my 7 year old...or ever from any child.

As someone who almost gave up...multiple times in my life in the past...I couldn’t bear to hear the same words come from her...Had I given up...none of this would be here...she wouldn’t be here...my incredible first born would never get to see what would be possible by not giving up...I want to show her what she is capable of....and that’s amazing things. It took me 30 years to see what I was capable of...she has so much ahead of her...

This room remodel was for her...to give her a space that brings her peace...a space that she designed and could be proud of...a space where if she needs to escape, she can... a space where she controlled how much work I did to it... This project was “on-the-fly” because I felt I needed to pour into her and listen to her and give back to her, and show her the potential she has when she says ‘I can’...

Sometimes, I get caught up in work and my passion for DIY that I forget to listen, to be still, to be calm, and be present with my kids completely. It was great taking the week off, just to be with them and understand them deeper.

I wanted to reach out and say, if you’re ever struggling, hurting, not feeling heard, please reach out. I am here. I understand those feelings of being alone and not feeling valued. Hug you kids, hug your family, hug your friends, and just listen to what they need to say...it may change...or even save them.
