Okay, largest recorded Octopus is a Giant Pacific Octopus @ around 30' 600lbs. Largest recorded Great White is "Deep Blue" @ 20' and 2.5 tons. This is a tough one ... I'm betting octopus, each suction on its tentacles has the strength to pick up 16kg...280ish suckers each arm x 8 = 35,840kg of sucker strength ... so roughly 39.5 tons of suction power.

This reminds me of the old “Bear vs Gorilla” debate and the same principle stands: size wins. If it were Great White vs Giant pacific aka the two most powerful of species of each. I think it’s no contest, a shark is just too big, octopus would get devoured. Smaller sharks could be overpowered/outsmarted but great white or bull shark win 100/100 times.
