Rip me,,, went to a con once and they shoved all of the indie artists to the side. It was literally an artist alley, with all of the smaller artists being trapped in a hallway away from the main stuff. I barely sold anything

Honestly would put it in c tier. Like if we’re sticking with the gamer joke, it’s too risky of a play style to be competitively viable, and if we’re being realistic its very dependent on economy and the life of a fandom. I’ve heard stories of artists making merch for a series that was seemingly popping off in online spaces only to be irrelevant within a month, in this case it was devilman crybaby, and by the time they made the merch and got to the convention people already stopped caring about that series to the point they had to bring back boxes on boxes of unsold merch. And when it comes to original work that’s even harder to sell in person. Trends moves so fast nowadays it’s almost unhealthy to even try to bend to the whims of what the algorithms are pumping. Again this is very dependent on fan art and the health of a fandom and then also the economy.

Unfortunately, your location does affect this, too. For example, I'm just a train stop away from a pretty big con that happens yearly, so I would have more access to sell there. However, if you live far away, there's more of a chance to spend more to travel
There's also the fact that most people like to spend money on already existing characters other than OCs (unless your OC/oc art is really appealing)

As an artist alley artist, im usually putting a lot of my own money to making merch and table. a way to alleviate table funds is to Collab with another artist if the table is big enough

I might make a ohysical shop for my stuff at a convention and provide customers or potential customers with a website to buy my goods later on
