He was extremely creative. Just because something is hard to play doesn't make it good. all your Guitar Gods that were alive all said the same thing Kurt Cobain was amazing.

Music doesn't always need to be complicated to be good

As a guitarist, I literally remember where I was and what I was doing the first time "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came on the radio. Never heard anything like that in my life and I was a music fiend that listened to everything.
I didn't know how it sounds to people today but when it first dropped, it was life changing without a doubt.

Being able to impress with simplicity is a skill.

This is spot on. Thats why there are a million people that can play EVH's 'eruption' or shred. Millions. Only a handful of people to EVER walk the earth can change the world with simple good hooks and real emotion. Kurt's guitar was relatively simple in many ways. He said he was the "anti guitar hero". Most critics don't get that Kurt's music is meant to be viewed as a whole. It is the song. The abstract, smart and symbolic lyrics. The delivery. The raw emotion. Being able to take the feedback and chaos and shape it into a song that connects with people on an emotional level. The fact that he was ahead of the curve. That he was a conductor of sorts of generation x. I'm a guitarist. I love metal. My first tape of "real music" was when I found Appetite For Destruction in 5th grade. I loved all that thrash and even Motley Crue type stuff. BUT. When I heard Nirvana it was something entirely different. The world had changed. You could feel it. That's another level.

If you watch his playing on Live At The Paramount, it’s impressive how he can move so much while playing those parts so tight. Not a lot of guitarists have the physical or mental stamina to make simple parts sound that good

I AM a guitarist so this is how it is:
He was a FANTASTIC guitarist! He could play whatever he wanted, he simply loved simplicity and meaningful melodies. Simple really…

His songs are fun to play and punky. He was an excellent inventive artist.

Kurt had a style of playing, and that’s what made him so great.
His riffs were simple, but what they lacked in difficulty they made up for with personality and style.
He deserves far more respect for sure.

He ain't no Hendrix, but he's also not as bad as most people think he is, he just liked to keep it simple because that's what worked for the kind of music that he wanted to play.

I praise Kurt daily with my students because of his ability to do so many amazing things with so few tools! A good musician is a creative one!

The music sings the lyrics without words having to be sung. It's beautiful.

He was a brilliant guitarist.. guitar isn’t just about how fast your can shred or technically skilled you are. The sounds he made with that guitar are truly iconic. Better than most professional session musicians could dream of doing

Kurt was a great rock musician, he knew what he wanted and was able to achieve it. He was a composer, as he said he wanted to create music he could play and sing on his own (if i do recall well), so it seems he was successful

Just because he didn’t shred like Eddie doesn’t make him a bad player, he absolutely was good
