Just want to say Thank You! You said on an interview that a person should always get the melody down first. I believe the topic was about improvisation. Well, I haven't gained that skill level yet but when my instructor hands me a new piece of music, looking at all the individual notes and chords is a lot to take in. Then I remember Tommy's advice, learn the melody first. That has been so helpful.
