You can protect those knees by doing it in the grass and using that little step up as part of your workout as well as jumping in the grass and like jump ropes and hops in the grass without a jump rope just in place that's better for your knees as well and if you put your foot on the ledge for the calf raises you'll feel it more because you can go lower than the ledge with your heel and then raise it up
