The Gait Guys talk about Arm Swing and Crossover Gait

Sleight of Hand

We noticed this patient had a cross over gait while running (1st few seconds of video). We noted she was crossing her arms over her body as well. We than had her run her hands and arms straight out. See the crossover disappear? We the had her do the same while walking. Easier to see, eh?

The arms are essentially adducting when the arms cross over. The arms are reciprocally paired with the contralateral lower extremity. When you make a change in one, you often will make a change in the other.

Subtle. Yes. Pay attention, the answer is often right there if you look closely enough.

This was very interesting.
The head seems to rotate quite a bit to the rightand be a bit extended.
I teach people to reposition their centre of gravity a little, usually back depending  on where they're striking and rotate the pelvis a little to lengthen rectus femoris. If they get the hips right and are aware of the head relative to the low back then the neck posture seems to correct fairly easily.

I've seen a great many long distance runners lately with these types of movements, most often hamstring issues and, back and shoulders, the low back they usually keep running through even if painful, the hamstrings tend to stop them and they come in advise.

Thanks for the interesting content, looking forward to more of it :)!

what are you folks trying here? which kind of arm movement gives maximum efficiency? which kind prevents injury? which kind is the best for long runs? the musculature of the body swings very differently with each. thanks for the upload but wish it would be explaining more.
